The Seamless
Surface System
Microcement is a cement-based coating applied in multiple thin layers directly over existing substrates — tiles, concrete, screed, plywood and more. With no grout lines or expansion joints, microcement creates one continuous surface that flows effortlessly through any space.
Suitable for microcement floors, walls, worktops, stairs and wet rooms, microcement is fully waterproof when correctly sealed — making it one of the most versatile finishes available. Its ultra-slim 2–3mm profile means it can be applied without raising floor levels, minimising disruption and making it the ideal choice for renovations.
At Polished Concrete & Stone, we work with premium European microcement systems, applied by fully trained and accredited installers across the UK. Every microcement project is surveyed, specified and installed to the highest standard — backed by our full aftercare service.

Asked Questions
Yes — one of microcement's key advantages is that it can be applied directly over most existing substrates including ceramic and porcelain tiles, concrete, screed and plywood, provided they are structurally sound and well bonded. This eliminates the need for costly and disruptive demolition work, making it ideal for renovation projects where you want minimal mess and downtime.
Our installers will assess the existing substrate during the survey stage. If any tiles are hollow, cracked or poorly bonded, those must be addressed before application to prevent cracking of the microcement layer.
Absolutely — when correctly specified and sealed with the appropriate waterproofing system, microcement is fully suitable for wet rooms, shower enclosures and bathrooms. We use a dedicated wet-area primer and a multi-coat polyurethane or epoxy sealer system rated for continuous water exposure.
Correct installation is critical in wet environments. We ensure appropriate waterproofing membranes are in place, seams and junctions are correctly detailed, and the full sealer system is applied to the manufacturer's specification. A poorly installed microcement wet room is the main cause of problems — which is why choosing an experienced, accredited installer matters.
A standard residential floor typically takes 3–5 days to install, including preparation, two or three microcement coats, sanding between coats, and applying the final sealer system. Curing and drying time between layers is critical — rushing the process compromises the final result.
Walls and wet rooms follow a similar timeline. Larger commercial projects are phased to minimise disruption. We'll give you a detailed programme as part of your quote so you know exactly what to expect at each stage.
Microcement is a rigid, cement-based material — like any rigid finish, it cannot bridge structural movement. Hairline cracking can occur if the substrate moves or settles, which is why substrate assessment and preparation is so important. We use flexible admixtures and reinforcing mesh at junctions and movement zones to reduce the risk.
On a stable, well-prepared substrate, microcement performs excellently over many years without cracking. We'll be honest during the survey if we think a substrate is high-risk and discuss the options with you.
Day-to-day maintenance is straightforward — sweep or vacuum regularly, and damp mop using a pH-neutral floor cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, vinegar or abrasive cleaners, as these can break down the sealer over time.
The sealer does wear over time, particularly on floors in high-traffic areas. We recommend a maintenance re-seal every 3–5 years depending on usage. We supply a complete aftercare kit with every installation including the correct cleaning product and sealer for your specific system.
